Happy holidays, dudes and ladies!

Noah, Lou and I went over to Mom and Dad's to help decorate the tree last night. Not sure if you can see in that photo or not, but Lou has a lovely scrape next to his left eye from getting kicked by a horse on Saturday. I had him at the barn with me while I was cleaning stalls. I don't normally have him off leash if there's horses around, but he's fine if they're turned out and I'm in the barn, because he never wanders far from me. Anyway, I knew one of Susan's friends was coming that day and bringing her horse with her to school in the arena. I saw her when she came in the barn, of course, but somehow didn't see that she had her horse with her until it was too late to grab Lou. He bolted over to the horse (a 16.2hh friesian/warmblood) barking and jumped on his hindquarters-- he thinks horses are big dogs that want to play. The horse, of course, didn't really appreciate the surprise from behind and gave him a kick in the head. Lou yelped pretty loud and came running back to me.

Soooo I took him to work and took some skull x-rays to make sure everything was OK in there and it was. He's pretty much back to normal now, except for the scrape, and the swelling around his eye has gone down. I'm just glad he didn't get a solid blow instead of the warning kick he got otherwise there might have been some serious damage. Hopefully he learned his lesson! I'm debating whether to take him to the barn with me anymore. I don't want him getting hurt, but I also would like him to learn how to behave around the horses since I spend so much time there and it'd be nice to take him with me. He's improved a lot -- he knows not to go into the fields and will wait at the gate for me while I turn out or bring in a horses -- and he's very well behaved when he's on the leash. He knows not to go into the stalls when there's a horse in there and not to go near the cross ties, and Susan's horses are all fine around dogs since she brings her VERY well behaved dalmatian with her all the time. I guess I just need to be more careful and keep him on the leash and keep working with him until he can be fully trusted.

Anyway, enough about Lou! It's finals week and I've got to ace both of mine so I can get A's in my classes. My A+P and Parasitology finals are back to back on Thursday, but I have the week off until then. After that I can focus on Christmas shopping and wedding planning.

We got a teensy bit of snow today, but most of it's melted now. I plan to spend all day inside studying and being lazy.
